Frenemies

Have you ever had a "friend" who you just can't seem to please no matter what you do? Why do we let these people continue to hurt us, upset us and treat us badly? Do men do the same thing? THAT I highly doubt.

Those of you who are my Facebook Friends, probably know that I'm referring to a recent episode that I had with a former FB "friend" and her love of posting status updates in her native language of French, only this last time, her status update was snarky crap about me! ME? I guess she didn't realize that I could google a translation program and get the jist of what was being said or ask a friend who is a French teacher or one of my husband's Cameroonian students to translate for me. I still can't even quite figure out why I am such an annoyance that anything negative had to be said about me in the first place. The comments related to my blog and MY status updates which honestly, aren't scandalous but usually just talk about how many miles I run, what I'm making for dinner or if I get really exciting, something funny that The Son has said to me. Isn't that what social networking is all about? I like to hear that my friend Cristina in Texas just got a new running toy and realized that she's running faster than she thought or that my friend Andrea in Delaware is going to running TWO half marathons within weeks of each other or that my friend Heidi in Pennsylvania finally had foot surgery but can't get her little one to stop jumping on the bed so that her foot won't hurt as it heals... I LIKE these updates! And if I don't, you know what? I don't read them! For example, my friend Melissa who likes to post occasional Bible passages, I am NOT a Bible passage kind of girl so I just don't read those, do I let it bother me? NO! It's her Facebook page to do with what she wants!

As for blogs, I have lots of friends who have networked their blogs to Facebook, if it's an entry I want to read, I read it, if not, I don't, simple as that. No need to bitch in another language about these people or their social networking content. I still don't understand why it was done about me AND yes, I am hurt. Really hurt.

So, I get back to my original question, have you ever had a friend that you can't seem to please no matter what you do? I'm 40 years old people, I feel like this crap shouldn't be going on in my life any more and as much as I try to say, "I won't let it bother me," "I'll get over it," "She's not worth it." It still hurts.

This particular friend was mad at me months ago, during the summer she deleted me from FB, I never really found out what I did but after a couple months of not talking to me, she told me that I had said something that hurt her feelings and she didn't feel like I was a very good friend but that she missed me and wanted to resume our friendship again. I should add that she NEVER actually told me what it was that I said or did so I still don't know but I made a conscious effort to be more sensitive, considerate and thoughtful than I had before. I even invited her to attend an upcoming scrapbooking weekend with me and my cousin and sister because I know how much she likes to scrapbook and it's local and I thought she might like to get away. I am an abrupt person, I know that, I know I can come off as harsh but I really never mean to hurt anyone's feelings, it's just my manner. If someone tells me I hurt them, I feel bad, I apologize, I'd like to know so that I can fix it. Cut to a few days ago when I invited her and her family to my New Year's Eve party. It was fun, I thought we all had a great time and then a couple days later, I see these mysterious French status updates that I eventually translated and realized were nasty things about me. UGH! WHAT THE...? WHY?

I called her on the phone, she didn't answer, I left a message that I was deleting her so that she wouldn't be bothered about my status updates and networked blog anymore and I also said, "This friendship is over, I thought we were friends again but clearly, I was wrong." I told her that I was deleting her from FB and that was at least offering the courtesy of a call which didn't happen with her when she deleted me before. I promptly hung up after feeling instantly transported back to high school! I shouldn't have let it get to me so much but I couldn't help it, I feel so betrayed and taken and can't help but wonder if maybe this was her plan all along because perhaps what I said before was so hurtful to her (not that I know what it was) that she's been planning on getting back at me. Keeping with the high school feel, all I can think to say is "Whatever."

I'd like to end by thanking all of you who commented on facebook or this blog yesterday and who support me, who understand social networking and blogging and especially to those of you who I've known for 6+ years and have never actually met in person, you girls are better friends than people who I live right down the street from and see on a regular basis. I would never call you "virtual" friends, you're real friends who I just happened to meet virtually and I really hope that someday we can all meet in person because you are all special to me. Thanks.

I know it will continue to hurt me, irritate me, confuse me and I'll continue to question why this all actually happened but I have to look at the bright side and know that truly, this isn't a person I need in my life, even if she never intended for me to realize her comments were about me, the fact is that they were and for some reason she has an inner dislike for me that I will not be able to change. Lesson learned. "Au Revoir Frenemy, Au Revoir."

I've come to a conclusion...

Working out and going to the pool are more fun than blogging. No one (but my beautiful sister) leaves me comments anyway. Boo hiss. I put up those super cute pictures of The Son and Pocahontas and no one cared.

I lost another measly .6 pounds last week but that still means I've lost 12 this summer so that's pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I will admit that I probably wasn't being quite as careful as I should be the past two weeks so any loss is a good loss. I've buckled down and I've been faithfully tracking my foods this week and increasing the work outs again.

The Son is in Vacation Bible School this week (which is a whole ironic story in and of itself) so I have a little bit of free time in the mornings to hit the gym. We're heading to the pool and I'm working tonight so I'm signing off to head out for the afternoon.

Enjoy your Monday people!

Those are all the visits I've had today... TODAY! It's only 10:45 AM

Comments I've had in the past 48 hours= 5. Do you see a problem here? I hate to be a crybaby and beg, beg, beg for comments but seriously people, if you're coming here, how difficult is it to say that you stopped by and leave a little comment. I do it when I visit your blogs, maybe not every single time but pretty much every other time.

I guess what I don't get is how many of the blogs I read have hundreds of comments a day...hundreds! Yeah, they're better bloggers than I am that's true, but still... hundreds! I guess it's not all about the comments but a few more would be nice. Just saying...

Anyway... I'm done complaining. (for now) Today, I'm home with The Son and I plan on decorating a little bit for Valentine's Day. I started a few things yesterday and hope to get it all finished today. I "heart" Valentine's Day...get it? ha ha! I crack myself up! I also have a lot of cleaning to do. I know it makes for very exciting blogging to hear about my cleaning. I will be showing pictures of my decorations soon and I'm contemplating starting a Friday feature on my "Adventures in Healthy Living." That should pretty much get us through the rest of the week.

Have a great day everyone now...go leave a comment!

5000!

My stat counter finally hit 5,000! That's pretty cool to me. Too bad they're not all leaving comments. ha ha!

Tag! I'm it!

I want to start off today's post by thanking Darlene at Darlene's Days for giving me an awesome "I heart your blog" award AND by tagging me to do a 6 random facts about myself tag thing. I've never actually had an award and I've never been tagged. What fun and all in one day!

So now I get  to give this award out to six bloggers for them to pass on as well. I have many blogs that I read but most of them have already received this award so I've searched through my blog roll to see those who haven't already gotten this award. If you already did get this, I apologize...just know that lots of people "heart" your blog.

I'm giving it to:

and last but certainly lot least, my sister Cathleen at It's Just the Little Things

I also figured I'd make it easy on myself and tag these people to answer the six random things about themselves tag as well. I'm so efficient, don't you think?

So, here's the six random things about me:

1. I have ichthyophobia which is defined as the fear of fish. I HATE fish. I cannot even go into the fish sales area of the pet store because to me, the gold fish are the worst out of all of them! I can go to a large aquarium because The Son loves fish but even then I have to really prepare myself for it, sometimes it's difficult for me to not freak out when I'm there but I usually do OK for him.

2. When writing in a check book, I must write in all the same color, preferably blue. I would never be happy if I wrote one entry in black, one in blue and so on and so on. It. All. Must. Be. The. Same. If I don't have a blue pen and have to write a check, I'll make note of the entry on a scrap piece of paper and enter it in the check ledger later. The check itself can be written in any color, just not the entries in the ledger.

3. I love to peel stickers and plastic off of stuff. I was in heaven when I got all my new appliances and got to peel off all that plastic. Once on vacation, we rented a house and they hadn't peeled the plastic off of the bathroom light fixture before it was installed (duh.) I climbed right up on the sink and peeled it all off myself. It was thrilling.

4. My favorite food is macaroni and cheese. I like it all, from Kraft to gourmet truffled mac and cheese. Delish! When I was first pregnant, Kraft mac and cheese was one of the only things I could manage to eat. Do you think it's a coincidence that it's also one of The Son's favorite foods now too?

5. I love to sing and have done lots of musical theatre. Right after The Husband and I were engaged, I even worked as a singing and dancing waitress on a river cruise ship "The Spirit of Philadelphia." It was a really fun job. The Husband worked there too, he didn't find it as much fun as I did.

6. I hate soda. I never drink it. I don't really even like juice. Water is my usual beverage of choice excluding the "grown-up" beverage category of course.

Thanks again Darlene! You made my day for sure.

I look forward to seeing everyone else's six random facts! Have a great day everyone.

A strike out post...

I think I just learned how to do a strike out when doing a post.

Monday, September 29, 2008

I finally saw it!

I finally got to see the movie "Sex and the City" last night and of course, I loved it. The Husband even watched it with me and seemed to enjoy it, at least on the level that a man can enjoy and understand it. He likes Chris Noth from "Law and Order" so at least it had an actor in it that he liked.

I stayed up WAY too late for a girl who has to get up at 5:45, but I guess it was worth it. I went through a lot of tissues, but I have been known to cry at  "The Simpsons" so that should be no big surprise.

However, my blogging has suffered the consequences and I am not able to think or type coherently at the moment. (What's my excuse on the other days then you ask? Very funny.)

I have just about all of my Halloween decorations up and they look super cute. We had a little party on Saturday night for The Husband's 44th birthday and people seemed to like everything I did. I'm going to try to post them tomorrow or maybe I'll wait until Wednesday for the first day of October, either way, they'll be posted this week.

Have a good Monday night everyone!

I'm sick.

And I don't like it. I am sneezing, have a sore throat and just feel "yucky". It's not fair, I just started a new "job" at an elementary school and already I caught something? Grrrrr. I'll have to take some more "Airborne" I swear that stuff works for me!

I have lots of things that I want to post this week, The Mushroom Festival being #1. I also have a few shots from the Delaware Museum of Natural History and a BUNCH of thrift store/dollar store/craft store items that will soon be used for Halloween decorating. I love me some Halloween. It's my favorite holiday, well at least it ranks up there with Christmas. It is also my Mom's birthday so it's a special day in that regard as well.

I have work to do on lesson plans for my Eels and Rays for tomorrow and for my Pikes and Pike Plusses for Wednesday. I have a sub working for me on Wednesday so I really have to make sure my plans are in order. This is the first time I've ever had to have a sub so I want to make a good impression. Why is CityMomma/CountryMomma requiring a sub this week you ask? Well, that's a secret I might choose to tell you all about someday. ;)

Enjoy your Sunday people in Blogland! I'll try to be a better blogger next week!

Hip Hip Hooray!

My furniture rehab was featured on another blog today! Check out that nifty little badge I got from Mary at "At Home Redesigns". My first one! I'm so proud. She has some fantastic ideas on her blog and will be featuring other blogs and more great ideas on Sundays. You know Sundays are always slow in blogland so if you have a great idea, be sure to send it to her. There's some great ones today too.

Happy blogging everyone!

I was featured!

I'm so happy! Kimba from "A Soft Place to Land" has featured my first furniture rehab on her blog. I already have 15 comments which is the most I've ever had for any post. SO exciting to me. Now I just wish Kimba would make a cute little thingy that I could post on my blog that would link people back to her blog and would jazz up my blog in the mean time. I just love those but don't have any yet. As you can see, I don't even know the proper name for them, if there even is a proper name. Anyway, I'm just grateful that she mentioned me, the furniture rehabbing guru herself mentioned little old me and my first furniture rehab project...thanks Kimba!

Conversation with The Son (and The Husband)

The Son: Mommy, do boys have blogs?
Me: Sure, I guess some boys have blogs.
The Son: I want a blog.
Me: Oh OK, well, when Mommy writes on her blog, I write about things like you and our family and stuff around the house. I even call you "The Son."
The Husband: Son like S-O-N, not S-U-N. So what would your blog be about?
The Son: I think like bugs and dinosaurs. OH! and sharks too, definitely sharks.
Me: Sounds good, what are you going to call your blog?
The Son: (thinking with a big grin) The Earth
Me: The Earth?
The Son: Yeah.
Me: What are you going to call Mommy on your blog?
The Son: (thinking again and replying oh so sweetly) My Love.
Me: Really? You're going to call me "My Love?" Thank you, I really like that. (Kisses all over

I'll take it! I know that in a few years, he won't feel that way but right now, I don't mind being called "My Love" by my sweet four year old, I don't know when he'll fit in blogging about me when he's blogging about bugs, dinosaurs and sharks but that's OK. It's the thought that counts.

I see that you're visiting...

Why don't you people ever leave comments? Now, I like to think I'm above all those bloggers out there who I see begging for comments, saying they won't post again until you all leave comments all that nonsense, but evidently, I'm not because here I am begging for comments. Can't you just throw an old girl a bone and leave a comment or two...is that asking so much from you? That means you too Daddy.

Commenting change

I changed the comment settings for my blog. Now anyone can comment even those without a blogger account... I expect the comments to be overwhelming now. Get busy.
