For those of you who don't know, we moved into this house in March. It's new construction, quite a difference from our previous house that was built in 1811. (I will be showing pictures of that house someday too but it might be a while.) For today, I am only going to show (most of) the downstairs and The Son's room because the rest of the house isn't even close to being decorated yet. I hope you enjoy...
Here's the foyer and the front staircase. I'm happy with the way it looks for now but I also like the idea of changing it up in the future. I guess you could call it a continued work in progress.
The study is to the right of the living room, it still needs work. I plan on hanging The Husband's diplomas and all that kind of "official business" stuff eventually. I am really happy with the built-in bookshelves we had the builder put in though. See my Mac? That's where I'm sitting right now as I blog.
Off to the left of the foyer is the dining room, this room is also a work in progress. It has a beautiful bay window and window seat that I need to get a cushion for as well as a window treatment (or mistreatment for you Nester fans out there) but I haven't gotten around to that yet either. It's a big house and we can only manage to do a little bit at a time. I've honestly given myself a year or more to be "completely" decorated.
Here's our kitchen. I'm pretty happy with the way it looks right now, right off the kitchen is the sunroom which is currently functioning as The Son's play room. It's a good place to have all the toys but still have him close by me when I'm trying to get things done. Eventually, as he gets older, it will serve a different purpose. I envision light comfy furniture to hang out, drink a cup of coffee and read a magazine or book.
Outside of the sunroom is the deck. We eat out here fairly often. It's a nice place to relax and spend some family time.
Here's a view of the kitchen into the Family Room.
Here's the Family Room. I'm pretty happy with this room too. I have a few more things planned for that corner with the barn stars (The Chair I'm going to rehab and a decorator table) but over all this room makes me really happy. I like to switch out the decorations for the seasons and I'm planning an apple-y autumnal look for September.
More Family Room
This little chest is a Pier One BARGAIN! I simply love it! The Husband and I found it and it had a huge crack in the bottom and it was marked down to $150. Still too expensive...The Husband talked them down to $74 and we snatched it right up. The Husband repaired it (without taking pictures first. duh.) and I now use it to store my upcoming decorating items in. The picture hanging above it is the memo board I completed at my scrapbooking get together two weeks ago. It looks like it's hung too high in this picture but doesn't look too high at all in person. Go figure.
Lastly I have pictures of The Son's room for you. The orange color on the walls is bright but not quite as bright as it's photographing in these pictures. The bedding is from The Land of Nod. I picked it out a LONG time ago when The Son was going through his fascination with the states. I loved it back then and I still love it today. More importantly, so does he.
As I said (many times) in this post before, this is just the beginning of what I want our house to look like. I know there are many excellent ideas out there for decorating so if you see something in my home that catches your eye and you have a suggestion for me, please feel free to let me know. I'll be happy for the ideas, believe me. It's still a little overwhelming when I think of everything that I want to do around here.
Thanks for coming on my virtual house tour. I'll be over for your house tour soon!
