Staying healthy at Disney World.

Well yes, I know I'm a day late (and a dollar short) with my Living Healthy, Living Well post but I just couldn't get around to blogging yesterday. I had a major headache and also had lots to do to get back to reality. I made it to the gym and beat my previous 5 K time (on the treadmill) I managed to complete the 3.1 miles in 38 minutes and 27 seconds. I know it's still slow but I'm hoping that I'll be able to complete the real race I'm running in two weeks in under 40 minutes. If that happens, I'll be happy. So onto...

I managed to lose 2.4 pounds between my last weigh-in and Thursday, that's two weeks. As usual, it's safe to say, I was thrilled! I was also surprised because as much as I tried to eat healthy at Walt Disney World, it wasn't easy. I did notice that I made some better choices than I would have in the past, more salad, more fruit and more veggies when possible. However, I also ate fries which I hadn't eaten in months and had dessert way more frequently than I probably should have. We were trying to stay on budget so over all, I didn't have too many "grown-up drinks" other than the occasional wine in the room with The Husband. As I mentioned before, we're members of the Disney Vacation Club so we had a two bedroom suite with kitchen and living room. I'm sure that helped a lot as we ate breakfast in our room every day. I was able to take my precious Fiber One cereal and Raisin Nut Bran instead of eating bacon, biscuits and other high-fat options from the restaurant. I also took snacks to the parks with me, I enjoyed my little bag of almonds every afternoon when I felt hunger pangs and I purchased lots of fruits... mostly grapes and oranges. Boy, were those oranges good... it is Florida after all.

We stayed at the Saratoga Springs Resort which has a beautiful spa and gym facility. I worked out there twice and took The Son on a long "exercise walk" in his stroller around the resort one evening. Other than that, we walked a lot. A. LOT. I guess anyone who visits Disney World walks a lot. It didn't seem like I was getting major amounts of exercise because I wasn't sweating or really exerting myself but what ever I did, I managed to bring my grand total of weight loss to 37 pounds! I'll feel better after another weigh-in, I never feel completely safe until two weeks have gone by, if that makes any sense.

The last thing I have to say is, I felt great! I know that I still have lots to lose, my BMI is still in the "obese" category but I was never over-tired, never sweaty, (and it was 85 degrees and very sunny) and I was comfortable on all the rides. My feet hurt a bit at the end of the day but I think that just comes with the territory. I know that I am getting myself very fit and it's a wonderful feeling! I doubt I would have had half as much fun 37 pounds ago.

Thanks to those who have been supporting me! Have a great weekend everyone!

Way to go, Caren!
Meanwhile, I've been putting on a little weight with all the stress eating I've been doing lately. Ugh. I'm going to start turning things around now though, since Tim has a job lined up and the future is more secure. But we'll be moving, and that's stressful, too.

Congrats! Your loss is so inspiring. I'm going to WDW tomorrow and look forward to having the time to walk all day and eat well and healthfully. I can't imagine a better or more diet-friendly place than Disney World.
