Virtual House Tour...

I was planning a house tour for Wednesday (to appease a friend on my message board) when I found out that Hooked on Houses is having a house tour party for Tuesday so I decided to bump it up a day. (You'll just have to wait another day to see adorable pictures of The Son in his Hilarious Hat for Wacky Week of camp)

For those of you who don't know, we moved into this house in March. It's new construction, quite a difference from our previous house that was built in 1811. (I will be showing pictures of that house someday too but it might be a while.) For today, I am only going to show (most of) the downstairs and The Son's room because the rest of the house isn't even close to being decorated yet. I hope you enjoy...

Here's the foyer and the front staircase. I'm happy with the way it looks for now but I also like the idea of changing it up in the future. I guess you could call it a continued work in progress.

Off to the right of the foyer is our living room. This room is by no means complete. I need lamps and more decorations, I just haven't gotten that far yet and lamps are expensive. I also have no "vision" for this room. I love the furniture but can't seem to visualize any added accessories yet. Anyone with any suggestions? I'll take 'em!

The study is to the right of the living room, it still needs work.  I plan on hanging The Husband's diplomas and all that kind of "official business" stuff eventually. I am really happy with the built-in bookshelves we had the builder put in though. See my Mac? That's where I'm sitting right now as I blog.

Off to the left of the foyer is the dining room, this room is also a work in progress. It has a beautiful bay window and window seat that I need to get a cushion for as well as a window treatment (or mistreatment for you Nester fans out there) but I haven't gotten around to that yet either. It's a big house and we can only manage to do a little bit at a time. I've honestly given myself a year or more to be "completely" decorated.

Here's our kitchen. I'm pretty happy with the way it looks right now, right off the kitchen is the sunroom which is currently functioning as The Son's play room. It's a good place to have all the toys but still have him close by me when I'm trying to get things done. Eventually, as he gets older, it will serve a different purpose. I envision light comfy furniture to hang out, drink a cup of coffee and read a magazine or book.

Outside of the sunroom is the deck. We eat out here fairly often. It's a nice place to relax and spend some family time.

Here's a view of the kitchen into the Family Room.

Here's the Family Room. I'm pretty happy with this room too. I have a few more things planned for that corner with the barn stars (The Chair I'm going to rehab and a decorator table) but over all this room makes me really happy. I like to switch out the decorations for the seasons and I'm planning an apple-y autumnal look for September.

More Family Room
This little chest is a Pier One BARGAIN! I simply love it! The Husband and I found it and it had a huge crack in the bottom and it was marked down to $150. Still too expensive...The Husband talked them down to $74 and we snatched it right up. The Husband repaired it (without taking pictures first. duh.) and I now use it to store my upcoming decorating items in. The picture hanging above it is the memo board I completed at my scrapbooking get together two weeks ago. It looks like it's hung too high in this picture but doesn't look too high at all in person. Go figure.

Lastly I have pictures of The Son's room for you. The orange color on the walls is bright but not quite as bright as it's photographing in these pictures. The bedding is from The Land of Nod. I picked it out a LONG time ago when The Son was going through his fascination with the states. I loved it back then and I still love it today. More importantly, so does he.

He's still a little young for the desk but I wanted to make sure that he had a nice set of furniture that he would grow up with so we went ahead and bought it all when we moved in. He's been very happy with all of his "big boy" furniture.

As I said (many times) in this post before, this is just the beginning of what I want our house to look like. I know there are many excellent ideas out there for decorating so if you see something in my home that catches your eye and you have a suggestion for me, please feel free to let me know. I'll be happy for the ideas, believe me. It's still a little overwhelming when I think of everything that I want to do around here.

Thanks for coming on my virtual house tour. I'll be over for your house tour soon!

I love your brand new house. I too used to live in an oldie - an 1855 colonial. I've recently gone 180 degrees and am living in a mid-80s contemporary. There is lots of light and space but I miss the old place.

You have such a beautiful home and you've already done such a great job getting it all pretty.

I like how you change your rooms in different seasons and that apple theme next month sounds wonderful. Just you saying the word autumn makes me smile. I can't wait for autumn!

The house looks great. I think you're doing the exact right thing - taking your time. I always feel a room "speaks" to us about how it wants to be decorated. You just have to take the time to listen!

Thanks for the tour!

You have a great home! One thing I've learned is that you can't do it all at once! And if you did...then what would you have to look forward to?

Thanks for the tour!

I'm loving your Land of Nod map of America quilt...since I don't have kids I'm out of the kiddie loop and I love seeing the creative and fun things that are being done with children's home furnishings now!

hi, i am what you call a blog 'lurker' lol its like stalking but in a nice way. I read a lto of blog ands usually follow a few i really like. yours makes me smile everytime i read it, usually involving The Son, which is cute, I have a 16 month old so it kind of gives me things to look forward to. Also, I would love to own a house one day and hopefully get to do the house things house people do.. (i rent so i am a limited) BUT i do read a lot of blogs and design sites, such as www.apartmenttherapy.com and ikea hacker blogspot. they are usually out of my price range but when i saw your house tour (which was great) i couldnt help but imagine what i would do if i lived there.. HA thats funny because i could never really buy anything expensive, most of my things are curbfinds and hand me downs.. anyways.. well you did great, i love the sofas and colors, chairs in the living room, etc. personally i am not a fan of dark wood furniture, but you have the room for it, visually dark wood eats up room in my small place. i really like the wall colors (the LR and kitchen and play area, they work so well with each other.. the blue in the kitchen, i never thought of that but it does look good. if i would suggest a backsplash that kind of ties in the other colors form the LR http://www.supremesurface.com/backsplash/Tile_Backsplash.html The "layered" is what came to mind but any stone would look fantastic against the blue and would bring the colors fromthe LR into the kitchen. WOW thats a lot of counter/cabinet space. man i wish i could have that. (we dont have a counter lol. well we have 12 inches of counter between the stove and the sink. thats it. ) i know you have plenty of light in the kitchen but maybe some 'hidden' lights on the low cabinets or just the corner to brighten a little. they have these lights that are inexpensive for that purpose, and you cant see them.also i love the shape of the table in kitchen, i think the white is so stark a contrast, maybe its just the light hitting it. i would prob paint it, or maybe a textured color similar to the color it is. but our house is beautiful and you have done really well with it. that little chest thing is awesome, i bet it was fun to work with it. i am working at refinishing a dresser i got for free.. another find, but it is real wood and i sanded it so no i am going to see what i am going to do with it. i will post that in my blog eventually. anyways, sorry if i was so critical. It seems i was picking but i swear i wasnt! your blog inspires me to do fun things and i look forward to doing lots of fun things with my son too. thanks fo being an inspiration. and congrats on staying sane while moving. I know that is a hard thing to do, but city to country that must have been a culture shock to boot. you held up marvelously! (sorry so long..)
