The Color Purple...

was fantastic. The Husband and I really enjoyed it. We see a lot of shows, in fact, for those of you who don't know, we met doing a show. Yes, we used to be thespians. (heh, heh, heh, she said thespian) You know who was in it? LaToya London from American Idol season III. She played Nettie, Celie's sister. She was great, but didn't really look like I thought she would, perhaps I just don't remember her looks that well.  It was cool the way they made the main characters start out really young and look much, much older by the end of the show without ever looking over done or fake. The costumes were beautiful too, I really enjoyed how the styles spanned many, decades. The woman who played Sofia, (the part The Oprah played in the movie) was so great, I think many would say she was their favorite character in the show. I guess that's no coincidence considering The Oprah is one of the producers. It wasn't a show that we would  probably call a favorite, we tend to like things a little funnier and perhaps more edgy, (think "Urinetown, "Avenue Q",  "Rent", "Wicked", etc.) but I did really love it and would certainly recommend it to anyone.
